We recommend scheduling your prenatal care visits once a month until you reach week 28 of your pregnancy. After that, the appointments become more frequent as the pregnancy progresses, with weekly visits recommended after 36 weeks. From there, you’ll see your doctor each week until your delivery, to make sure things go as smoothly as possible.
We will perform the necessary blood tests, ultrasounds, and other tests with you at designated times throughout your pregnancy, in order to ensure your health and the healthy development of your baby.

Women’s Healthcare Associates of Redding offers the latest ultrasound technology.
Your doctor uses ultrasound imaging to monitor the growth and development of your baby throughout your pregnancy. A noninvasive ultrasound also gives you the opportunity to see your baby’s movement in real time.

Gestational diabetes is characterized by elevated levels of glucose in the blood during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes typically resolves after birth.
At Women’s Healthcare Associates we check your glucose (sugar) levels to ensure your blood sugar levels remain at a normal level.

Ectopic pregnancies happen when an egg implants outside of the uterus (usually somewhere in the fallopian tubes). They can occur because of inflammation, infection, scar tissue, or structural defects in the fallopian tubes. You may experience stabbing pains that vary in severity. You may also have vaginal bleeding, weakness, or dizziness.
Treatments for ectopic pregnancies include medications that help your body absorb the pregnancy tissue without harming the fallopian tube. Often, surgical intervention is necessary, and your doctor can perform a laparoscopic or other surgery to remove the pregnancy tissue and repair the fallopian tube.
Following an ectopic pregnancy, your doctor monitors your health and may perform a follow-up examination of your affected fallopian tube. While you can still achieve a healthy pregnancy in the future, your chances may be reduced depending on the damage to your fallopian tube.

Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy where your blood pressure becomes elevated, threatening the health of your kidney and liver. The condition is most common after 20 weeks of pregnancy, even if you’ve otherwise maintained a normal blood pressure.
Causes of preeclampsia may include:
Genetics
Blood vessel damage
Immune system disorders
Inadequate blood flow to your uterus
If incorrectly diagnosed, preeclampsia can cause serious medical complications for you and your baby, including premature birth, organ damage, and seizures. Delivery is the only treatment option available for preeclampsia.
